Big Stones, Small Stones

2013 has been such a wonderful year for me! I welcomed my gorgeous twins into the world and have absolutely loved being a mum. And to finish the year off I received the amazing news that I've won a car! (I'll blog about that another day.)

2014 really has a lot to live up to. As always I love to give myself some goals. I can always remember a teacher/lecturer talking about big and small stones and putting them into a jar. You always have to start with the big stone and fit the small stones around it. They used it as an analogy for life. Better to tackle the big tasks first. So this year I have one main writing goal and that is to complete my work in progress. The rest of my goals would be lovely to complete but I'm going to concentrate on my big stone.

~ Complete my work in progress
Added March 2014:

  • Enter 5 writing competitions

Reading (I normally read lots but I've found little time to do so. This will make me find time!)
~ To read a book a month

~ Weigh a stone less by this time next year
~ Cook at least one recipe from every good food magazine this year

Realistic things to try and win:
~ A family day out
~ A cookbook
~ A fiction book
~ Something for the girls
~ A board game
Added March 2014:

  • An evening out for Dan and me
  • An item of clothing
  • A beauty product

In our wildest dreams:
~ iPad Air
~ Kindle Paperwhite
~ Some way of making more room in our house
~ New TV
~ Spa Day
Added March 2014:

  • A family holiday

Lastly, I need to blog here more frequently here as well as on The Romaniacs blog.

Wishing everyone a wonderful 2014! If it's even a bit like 2013 it'll be magic!

Mini Nano

November is National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo as it is more commonly shortened to. Lots of writers embark on completing 50,000 words. I completed it a couple of years ago and have to say it was hard work.

I'm in no position to try such crazy tasks but I do like to push myself so I figured why not try a mini version. A nano, if you like. So I'm aiming for 10,000 words over the course of the month to help me get back to my WIP. In between looking after my twins that is.

I've managed just under 2,500 so far plus I did end up attending the Festival of Romance after a friend offered me their dinner ticket! Thank you wonderful friend!

So if you are stuck with your writing or feel 50,000 is too much then just try and do more than me.

Whoop & a cheer!

Rather delighted to have discovered my current WIP, Baby Number Two has been shortlisted for the Festival of Romance New Talent Award! Now just to explain:

A) Don't worry I am not superwoman! This is not new writing that I've managed between nappy changes. I wrote this before the babies arrived! I've just made sure to send out what I do have.

B) The title! I have twins and the title is Baby Number Two! However, the two are not related! Or perhaps they are! As for the book I was researching fertility and as we were trying I figured why not put some of it into practice! You can decide for yourself if that's why we ended up with twins!

We are planning to take the girls to the Royal Baby Shower so I hope to see some of you then. As we'll need to get the girls home, I won't make the New Talent reception & Award dinner. There will be fellow Romaniacs there cheering like anything! Wishing everyone on the shortlists the best of luck.

The Little Lady produces Little Ladies!

It's been ages since I've posted and I thought it was about time! You'll see why in my last post and I thought it was about time I introduced my little ladies:
I can't believe they are three months old already! It has been quite a year! Often I haven't wanted to blog as I didn't want to jinx anything, but now they are here and they are gorgeous and life is complete.  At some point I will get back to writing, but for now I'm enjoying snuggles... I mean, how can I resist?

Hibernation over?

Ah! My sadly neglected blog. I knew this would happen. I set myself up with the grand idea of posting a picture a day and before you know it, it's gone completely to pot. Well, if you're friends with me on facebook or follow me on twitter then you should know why. And if not, there is a blog on The Romaniacs entitled Having It All? That explains everything. If not, this picture might do the job:
Yes, the twins I'm expecting have governed everything for the past several months and I believe this pattern may continue for the rest of my life. Hence, writing has taken a back seat, but only temporarily. In the time I've been away, this isn't my only bit of news. Not only do I have the awesomeness of twins to look forward to, I was also lucky enough to be selected as a runner-up in Miranda Dickinson's Future Stars competition. As a result I will be taking part in her Writing Inspiration Course which ties in nicely with my leave/size of a whale/pre-babies time. I'm hoping in that time to get some kind of partial ready to hand into the NWS as I have a feeling after that and with an August deadline for NWS, I won't be getting much more done!

*Waves to everyone*

The Phantom of the Opera

Just returned from the opening night of The Phantom of the Opera at The Mayflower. The production was excellent and the sets were amazing. Recommend it to anyone thinking of going.

Progress, Snow and shiny things

Three days of photos today after falling behind.

Pic One: As I work the weekends, Mr CM has been busy decorating our back bedroom. The ceiling is nearly done with only a final coat needed.

Pic Two: It's melting... Slowly. It hasn't snowed for a couple of days but the icy conditions are hanging on.

Pic Three: My new shiny laptop. And I've saved up just in time as the older one in the background has just developed screen jitters.

Pie Time

After a day at work and braving the snow, pie was just the ticket.

Christmas Present Sort Out

How are we halfway into the month of January already? I've been a bit slow getting started, but I thought it was about time I unpacked my Christmas presents. I think this tea towel sums up the daily struggle well.

Blubb fest!

Just watched Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close with hubs and it was a blubb fest. For me at least. Great film but tissues required.

Wet weekend!

What a wash out weekend. Made me glad to be at work for once. I should have taken a picture of the weather, but forgot. So here's the new series of Stella.

They want my blood...

Rheumatology appointment and blood test today. The appointment was a routine check up for my Sarcoidosis and the blood test is once every two months. Although took them a while today. They said it wasn't the done thing to turn out without any veins. I do have some, honest and they found one in the end.

Belated Chrimbo Pressie

My brother popped over today (en route home to Kent from office in Bournemouth) to drop off my Christmas present. He'd ordered it from Amazon before Christmas, but it didn't arrive in time for the big day. So he got me an extra present as well :) What a good brother.

Nose in a good book

Or in today's case a kindle. I've been reading United State of Love by fellow Romaniac, Sue Fortin. I'm hooked and won't be asleep until I've finished.

Time for biscuits!

I did go for fruit first, but discovered my satsumas have grown mould. So I had to open this family sized box of biscuits. Shame. Wonder how long they'll last. Just noticed the tea cakes. I'm off... Nom, nom, nom!

What an offer!

I have never considered myself to be a stickler for grammar. Mainly because of my dyslexia and the number if mistakes I've made along the way. However, along my writing journey I have learnt a thing or two. A great example is the Oxford comma. I think this email I received today could do with one. Either that or the chap is actually offering to cover himself in chocolate for me.

Rustic Chicken

I work at the weekends :( so no writing or anything else too exciting. So here's the lovely dinner my OH cooked...

Good post

Today my copy of Writing Magazine arrived and for the first time, I'm in it with a few words of advice in Margaret James' article on Page 65. It's about first drafts and as I'm launching into that currently, I will be following the advice. The Killing also arrived from Lovefilm. I'm on the 4th disc and totally hooked. My lunchtime viewing is well and truly sorted.

My new toy

For Christmas, my OH was very generous and brought me an iPad mini. It's wonderful. I love it. Although my OH did download some very addictive games onto it. Must try to not get too distracted by them.

Back to it!

Today I get back to the desk and make a start on the rest of Baby Number Two. In this notepad I have the plot sketched out, character profiles and drawings (v amateur) of what they look like in my mind. I still have research to carry out, but it's time to get on with getting it written.

Lazy Day!

Delaying the start of enthusiasm for 2013 as I'm having a lazy day with my OH. He convinced me to watch Warrior on the basis Tom Hardy is in the film - he knows me so well!
