January Update

I thought it would be a good idea to do monthly updates on how I'm getting on with my goals. Very Bridget Jones, I know.

Writing: I've only managed 500 words this month. One evening session was all I could manage. I'm finding after everything is finished, I've been too tired to do anything other than eat dinner and head to bed. This coming month I'm taking a new approach (see previous post).

Reading: Only 20% of one book according to my kindle! The girls are now in their own room so this should improve now I can read in bed again!

Health: I've taken the plunge and rejoined Slimming World. I've lost 5 1/2lbs in the first two weeks.
Zero Good Food recipes completed so far.

Competitions: I've been unbelievably lucky of late. I've won a place on a Sue Moorcroft writing course. I can't wait for this and will blog about it nearer the time. And I've already won three out of the five things on my list of achievable things to win:
 A board game
 A cookbook.
And I've also won a hamper of baby food on FB so that covers something for the girls.

Next month my main aim is to get more writing done.

Facebook Free February

It's no good. I haven't managed to get back to my work in progress yet. This month I have only managed 500 words.

For February I'm taking a different approach. I'm going back to pen & paper as part of the problem is never finding time to get my laptop out. Whilst I'm looking after the girls I often find myself checking Facebook. I see a notification and promptly go off to check what I'm missing. If I wrote a sentence each time instead, before I know it the word count will start to mount. So that's what I plan to do.

I'm not going cold turkey though and will check what I need to in the evening as there are some exciting things happening in February.

Hopefully my word count will be more this coming month.

Deliveries: 29th January 2014

We LOVE cookbooks in this house. We have an entire book shelf unit dedicated to them. So I was delighted to receive this one in the post from a competition in LandLove Magazine. As I'm back on Slimming World I can look forward to cooking some of these recipes soon.

Deliveries: 21st January 2014

These arrived today! I won a plate from the Munchkin advent calendar. I only expected the pink one but it arrived with a second plate & a bowl. Perfect timing as the girls have just started weaning and these will come in very handy in the near future!

Adventures: Capital FM Blue Monday Party!

I applied for tickets to the Capital FM Blue Monday & was lucky enough to receive some. As I'm busy looking after the twins most of the time it was good to get out and brush away the January blues with our friends. The tickets included some blue lagoon cocktails & a good spread as pictured by my foodie husband:

We also came away with some goody bags after joining in with a game where you had to match clues to pictures:
They also dished out some other prizes, one for best dressed. I certainly wasn't in the running for that, but as I said to my friends - as a mum of twins they were lucky I WAS dressed!

Deliveries: 13th January 2014

I received this book from GoodReads giveaways. They emailed me before Christmas and it arrived today. I've just had a flick through & it looks good. I'm adding it to my TBR pile and hopefully it won't be too long till I get to it.

Deliveries: 10th January 2014

Today I had a surprise delivery from The website WhatToDoWithTheKids. I won the game Wordsearch Junior from filling in a simple form.

I thought this year I would add pictures of any prizes I win on the blog. I use MSE competitions to look for them and I tend to enter them when the girls are feeding to occupy myself. Winning a board game was one of my goals so I can already cross this one off the list. Might have to wait a while to have a game with the girls.

Back to Business: Research

My writing aims for January have mainly involved research. There are several things I needed to know before continuing with my storyline. I've had some great help with my questions and I'm hoping to get more writing done during February & March. This picture shows one of the books I've loaned from the library for research. The others are for the twins. I think the librarians might have been confused by the selection!

Creative Wins: I won a car!

It's taken a while to sink in, but now it's on the driveway I can believe it! I really did win a car! A lot of people have said how lucky/jammy I am, which is true, but I do make a point of entering competitions that I see. In this instance, the promotion was: Buy One, Win Mii. So by buying a car you had the chance to enter the competition to win a car. Because of the twins we upgraded our car in September & I happened to be walking the twins by a busy dual carriageway to see how feasible it was to walk the girls to a nearby town centre. On the way, I saw the billboard & having recently changed our car I told my husband that he would have to find out if we could enter. As it happened they sent out an entry form and you had yo say in 100 why you liked Seat. I decided I would put a bit of effort into it and write a poem. Months went by and the form stayed on the sideboard. At the beginning of December we went to stay at my mum's in Kent (which was part of the deal when my OH changed the car) & the last thing I packed before we left was the form as I knew the deadline was in December. Whilst in Kent I managed to find the time to write the little poem explaining how we'd upgraded our car because of having twins. I got my husband to send it off on our return and thought nothing of it. That was until the garage called ME. They were selecting the ten best so at first I thought it must be to say we were one of the ten, but then he said, 'I have some very good news for you today!' and went on to tell me I had won the car! I was in the middle of a nappy change so the girls looked very perplexed at mum whooping and cheering! It is really fantastic news as it means I now have transport to take the girls out during the week & won't have to worry about walking next to busy carriageways.

Here the little beauty is:
As people often ask me how I win things, this year I'm going to blog about anything I win that has involved creative effort. I'm never going to beat this one, but perhaps it will inspire you to enter a few yourself!

Good Luck!
